<i>Warning: the following may induce eye rolls or "oh brother" exclamations due to extreme cheesiness You have been warned. </i><br />
<br />
I am so excited for the holidays! I've gotten all my Christmas shopping done, which is so unlike me. I usually leave a bunch of things till the last minute so not having that added stress has been nice! My family has a Christmas party every year and my grandparents are visiting from Florida so this is the first year they will be able to join us. We always have such a great time. I'm going to have a week off from work (WOO!) and I've been making plans to see friends during that time.<br />
<br />
I never officially announced it here on my blog but William and I have gotten back together! Relationships are so complicated, aren't they? I'm sure from a blog readers perspective, since I don't always share intimate details, my relationship seems very flighty, but I can assure you it isn't. We have discussed our relationship in depth in regards to our decisions and I can honestly say I am SO happy right now (and I'm pretty sure he is too ;) )! I have mentioned some construction going on over here. Well, we are building a mother-in-law suite on the second floor of my mom's house and progress will be a bit slow, but things are going great. I am sure I will be sharing a bunch of before and afters with you all as well.<br />
<br />
Sorry if this seems like bragging, but it's just really nice to actually be happy and have so much to look forward to! I hope you all are looking forward to the holidays and the New Year as much as me.<br />
<br />
<i>PS. In case the world ends tomorrow, you guys are awesome and thanks for reading. ;)</i>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-41605622017465450632012-12-11T13:25:00.000-05:002012-12-11T13:25:38.819-05:00gingerbread house<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been trying to get back into the habit of taking pictures. I thought the gingerbread house making date I had with my nephew would be a good time to start, and I was right. I managed to get a lot of cute shots of Josh concentrating on decorating. Christmas activities with kids always get me in the holiday spirit.<br />
<br />
I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he said. "Just one thing! A new bike!" Let's see if Santa delivers.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-33900583921588001042012-12-05T15:49:00.002-05:002012-12-05T15:49:52.667-05:00DIY// a faux fireplaceWhen I was young, I remember Christmases spent in the living room, in front of the tree and fireplace. In our home, we don't have a fireplace and it's most missed during the holidays. What better way to solve the problem of not knowing where to hang your stocking than making your own faux fireplace?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfauxfireplace1a-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfauxfireplace1a-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My supplies consist of a piece of plywood, cut in half. A 2x6 scrap wood from our contruction demolition and a wedge to support the middle. Some trim. Paints, including chalkboard paint left over from <a href="http://www.aparalleloflatitude.com/2012/10/constellation-globe-diy.html">this project</a>. And a screwgun and screws which I forgot to add. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfauxfireplace2a-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfauxfireplace2a-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I painted the plywood with the chalkboard paint for the fireplace hole, the trim, and the rest of the plywood with some kind of stone or tile pattern. You can paint it whatever you'd like. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfauxfireplace3-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfauxfireplace3-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I screwed the 2x6 directly to the plywood, then the plywood into the wall. Don't forget to add the wedge underneath the mantle for added support. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfoauxfireplaceaparalleloflatitude.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/diyfoauxfireplaceaparalleloflatitude.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Don't mind our messy construction you can clearly see to the left of this wall. If you do this project, or something like it, I'd love to see it! </div>

Speaking of Target, although I love the store, they are following in suit with many other retailers this year and opening on Thanksgiving in hopes for more sales. I think everyone should have the right to be with their family and friends on Thanksgiving including Target employees. As people who take a lot of pictures and post a lot of those pictures on the internet for the world to see, editing is a big part of our lives. Cropping, contrast, saturation. But what about airbrushing?<br />
<br />
After seeing <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PTlmho_RovY">this video</a>, I began to question my own practices. Sure, that video is aimed at the obvious and ridiculous photoshopping in ads but what about "everyday" images. Pictures of girls showing off their outfits fill the blog-o-sphere and there are pictures that are clearly edited.<br />
<br />
How much is too much? Is it inappropriate to airbrush your skin so your pores look smaller and is it different if you're altering a friends image? What about teeth whitening? When does editing for aesthetic purposes turn into misrepresention?<br />
<br />
Personally, I have never altered bodies or body parts to look smaller or different, but I am willing to admit I edit my pictures in a way where I feel I look better and it makes the overall image look better. I even do this when I take pictures at family events. I am always justified it as "helping people look their best" but should I?<br />
<br />
These are just some things I have been thinking about and I'm not even sure where my view on the matter stands as of now. As women (or men) and avid users of the internet, I would love to hear what you guys think on the matter.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-74110843048600502822012-11-14T10:00:00.000-05:002012-11-14T10:00:09.018-05:00taking a cue // moonrise kingdom<div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Moonrise Kingdom, a 2012 dramatic comedy directed by Wes Anderson, is a film about two twelve year olds, Suzy and Sam, who fall in love and run away on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965. Instead of Anderson's usual films about damaged and dissatisfied adults, this film lets you view this idyllic and attractively eccentric world through Suzy's binoculars.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is my personal favorite Wes Anderson film and here I take inspiration from the movie itself and Suzy for today's Taking a Cue. </div>

<br />
It's been a week since Hurricane Sandy has come through my home state of New Jersey. The weekend before, stores were packed full of people buying canned food and water. We knew this time would be different.<br />
<br />
Monday night we watched the wind bend trees, felt it shake the house. We lost power early on. Before bed, we saw the sky light up blue and orange, like fireworks from the distant transformers blowing. When we woke up on Tuesday, when the skies were clear, we ventured out to see the real damage.<br />
<br />
Trees down on peoples lawns, on their houses, on their cars, on power lines. Sheds ripped apart and scattered. Street signs blown yards away from where they were planted. No one had power besides the few who had generators. Traffic lights, gas stations, stores, there was no power anywhere. We were very lucky not to have any real damage to our house. There wasn't any flooding because we aren't close to the shore<br />
<br />
Lines for the few gas stations that could operate were miles long. Some townships had to boil their water for fear of contamination. At night, the temperature dropped toward freezing so many families chose to sleep in rooms together to keep warm from body heat. The next couple days we slowly started seeing the clean up and power being restored. We were without power, heat, and hot water for 5 days.<br />
<br />
The Jersey shore, a favorite of many, has seen so much damage that no one knows how long it will take to restore it to its former glory days. Seeing neighborhoods and communities come together in this time of need has been remarkable but we still have a long way to go. While things slowly get back to normal here, please keep the struggling people of the Tri-State area in mind and donate if you can for those who need help rebuilding.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-41651398220829039232012-10-23T11:15:00.000-04:002012-10-24T15:12:13.098-04:00Constellation Globe DIY<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYtitle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYtitle.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In my last <a href="http://www.aparalleloflatitude.com/2012/10/black-and-gold-findings.html">post</a> I had a constellation globe from Urban Outfitters and I thought, hey, I could make that. Now, this globe DIY wasn't actually supposed to be a constellation globe at first. I started the project a long time ago and hoped to do a black and white photo collage on the globe but as it turns out, making things look neat while glued to a round surface isn't the easiest task despite the amounts of Mod Podge you use... So my poor globe had been sitting around gray and unfinished until I could figure out what I would do to it. Only after posting that wishlist with the UO globe and thinking about things I could paint with chalkboard paint did it finally click. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYbefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYbefore.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYpeel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYpeel.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you buy a vintage globe for this project, chances are it's already metal and you can skip this process. If, like me, you picked up a cheap new globe, just wet down the surface and let it sit for a bit so you can easily peel off the map like wallpaper. When it gets down to the bits and pieces, just brush them off with a wire brush... or if feeling adventurous, take the globe into the shower with you while scrubbing it with your nails for a weirdly cathartic and probably very symbolic moment. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYprimed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYprimed.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYgold.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYgold.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yes that primer says it's for cars but that's because it's not very creative. Why just cars? Why not weirdly specific globe projects? Anyways, I primed my whole globe just to make sure the paint would have a good base to stick to since my globe is plastic. After 24 hours, you can paint the bar. Don't worry about being too messy because you will be painting the actual globe again. Wait another 24 hours. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIY.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYfinished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYfinished.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DCTH2G/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00">this paint</a> and painted two coats using a regular paintbrush. I am really happy with the surface texture, it's really easy to write on with chalk. I love my new globe and I can't wait to erase my hastily drawn constellations and put some better ones on there. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYplaced.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/ConstellationGlobeDIYplaced.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;">P.S. If you go to Target to pick up chalk, I'll go ahead and save you 15 minutes of searching, it's in the Crayola aisle. Lately, I've been leaning towards simplicity in my life. In regards to shopping, my own personal style, my apartment, and the things that take up my time. I'm not a very organized person naturally but it makes me happier when things are simple and neat so it's something worth working on. These are just a few findings that reflect this change in me. </div>

<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/woodlandvalleycamping.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/woodlandvalleycamping.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Friday afternoon, William, Chloe, and I headed down to Philly to pick up our friend Iovanni and headed back up north to Phoenicia, New York for a weekend camping trip.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/kerosenecampinglamp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/kerosenecampinglamp.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We ended up arriving in the evening so we couldn't really explore. We set up our tents, cooked some dinner, and headed to bed knowing we were pretty close to the creek since we could hear the water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/sunriseoverwoodlandvalleycreek.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/sunriseoverwoodlandvalleycreek.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In the morning, we got to see the sun rise over the creek and see just how beautiful Woodland Valley was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/autumnleaves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/autumnleaves.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The leaves back home in Jersey were still green so it was such a treat to see all the leaves here already changing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/woodlandvalleycampground.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/woodlandvalleycampground.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/campsiteatwoodlandvalley.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/campsiteatwoodlandvalley.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The camping grounds were great. Super close to a couple hiking trails and they had bathrooms.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/cookingbreakfastcampfire.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/cookingbreakfastcampfire.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One of my favorite things was the campfire. Here, we are toasting up some raisin bread before heading off to the trails.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/iovanniandchloecampsite.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/iovanniandchloecampsite.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Iovanni and Chloe all packed up and ready.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/hikingbreakwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/hikingbreakwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/willandchloewoodlandvalleycampingsized.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/willandchloewoodlandvalleycampingsized.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Taking an after hike break by the creek.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/tropicaltrailmixwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/tropicaltrailmixwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Tropical trail mix, nomnomnom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/walkingtheroadwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/walkingtheroadwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Will and I decided to explore the road that runs along the creek.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/mypretendhousewoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/mypretendhousewoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We play a game where we pick our houses we are going to live in when visiting different areas. This was mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/meonthecreekwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/meonthecreekwoodlandvalleycamping.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Later on it got chilly and started sprinkling but we were lucky we missed the real rain that started up on our way home on Sunday. I had such a great time, it was really nice to get away and to see how many stars you can actually see in the sky when away from the big cities. We are definitely going back to this area when the weather gets warm again and hoping to next time check out the waterfalls and take a train ride through the mountains.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-54633442284584702282012-10-03T10:00:00.000-04:002012-10-03T14:43:48.909-04:00on pinterest and feminism <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

How instead, it does a disservice to </span><span style="line-height: 26px;">feminism</span><span style="line-height: 26px;"> (the article's title is "How Pinterest Is Killing Feminism" but I won't delve into that because shocking titles gets clicks so it may or may not have been her point). </span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 26px;"><br /></span></span></span><span style="color: #666666;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 26px;">How does Pinterest do this? Well, the author explains, by having top pins be about a diet pizza crust, or having a female athlete pinned to an </span></span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 26px;">inspirational</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 26px;"> board to getting fit, and not being about, you know, feminist-y stuff... I guess?</span></span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="color: #666666;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; line-height: 26px;">That's the whole thing, I just don't get it. Why is it anti-feminist to pin pictures of whatever you want to pin pictures of? To me, her telling me I am an anti-feminist for pinning work out charts or healthy foods to a weight loss board </span><i style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; line-height: 26px;">is the only actual anti-feminist behavior here. </i></span><br />
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="line-height: 26px;"><i><br /></i></span></span><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">from HBO's Girls</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;">If I wanted the "Facebook" of Pinterest, I could sit on the front page and see what the most pinned items are that don't reflect my interests and actually make me end up hating the site. (Is that not what Facebook does?) This is what a lot of authors of these articles think Pinterest is. Sure, some of those things that get pinned a lot are stupid, but guess what? A lot of people are stupid. </span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;">You're supposed to create an account, log in, follow people who share the same interests and aesthetics as you. People who pin things you like. Things you want to see.</span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;">Do you know how many times I see pictures of models with comments of "I want to look like this" on my Pinterest? Never. Because I don't follow people who would pin that. </span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;">When men get into fitness magazines and want to get into shape, do we tsk tsk and say, "Guys, you aren't JUST your bodies, you can look however you want and the world will still love you!" No. We don't do that because it would be dumb and the point is, they want to get into shape and it's their body and they can do whatever they want. </span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;">The author, almost comically, points out that along with these diet recipes and "thinspiration" pictures, is board after board of food-porn. Cookies and cakes and pies and savory dinners and amazing side dishes you should try, and any food you can imagine. Because some people like to cook. And some people, like me, like to look at pictures of amazing food and wish they could cook. But I guess if you like to cook you aren't a feminist and you still have the "stay in the kitchen" mentality, or something...</span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span><span style="color: #666666;"><span style="line-height: 26px;">So yes, while it's a shame some women still believe their worth is based on how they look, to believe that Pinterest is only spreading that message is a bit far fetched. The author talks about other feminist approved (???) sites and how their audience is much smaller than that of Pinterest but you are comparing apples to oranges. An image board built on your tastes is very different from </span><a href="http://www.jezebel.com/" style="line-height: 26px;">Jezebel</a><span style="line-height: 26px;">, where you can read all about how HoneyBooBoo is the downfall of America as we know it. </span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 26px;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></span>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">So girls, and guys, like whatever you want. If you want to pin pictures for inspiration for your upcoming wedding, info-graphics pertaining to the upcoming elections, or you want to pin gifs of cats climbing into tiny boxes, you have the right to do so without anyone trying to make you feel bad.</span></span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #666666; line-height: 26px;">The main thing that gets me frustrated when reading about articles on Pinterest is that a lot of authors don't actually know how to use Pinterest. I could have a Pinterest account where the only things I would see are tech gadgets, video game posters, and pictures linking to articles about technology if I so felt like it. If I wanted to only see pictures from New York Fashion Week, I could do that too.</span></div>

It's starting to feel like Fall here in New Jersey and it's my favorite time of year.<br />
<br />
My birthday came and went in September and it wasn't as painful as last years. Probably because for a few weeks I mistakenly thought I had turned 27 but had just turned 26. So actually turning 27 wasn't bad at all.<br />
<br />
Work is back to the usual school schedule which is nice. My friend Chris came to visit for a couple weeks and we had a lot of fun with trips to Times Square in NYC and the historical district in Philly.<br />
<br />
I've been mulling over a pretty big life decision lately and it's scary. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just see where different paths take us? Although I guess that would take the fun out of life, it doesn't seem like much "fun" right now. I will fill you in when the time comes. :)<br />
<br />
I'm planning a camping trip in the Catskills at the end of the week, so that's super exciting. I've never actually been full on camping before. Shameful, isn't it? Any tips for a newbie?<br />

<br />
A while ago, I did a pretty detailed <a href="http://www.aparalleloflatitude.com/2012/01/my-makeup-routine-with-curls.html">make up post</a> but with crappy pictures. I thought I would do an updated version as I'm always changing the products I use. Plus, I like seeing what other people use because it gets me to try new stuff.<br />
<br />
This is an everyday look but I spent a bit more time on it than I normally would.<br />
<br />
BEFORE:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="518" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/before.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And AFTER:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/after3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="530" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/after3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm trying to mess with different looks and get more comfortable with less subtle make up. I'm brave enough to do a red lip but that's about it. I have to experiment more with different eyeliner techniques and eye shadows so I can feel comfortable going out of the house and not immediately getting negative and thinking it's "a bit much".<br />
<br />
Also, still trying to get a hang of that difficult winged eyeliner trick.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-76626897710351558192012-08-23T10:00:00.000-04:002012-08-23T10:00:00.282-04:00lazy bones<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I don't know if it's because I am inherently lazy or just curious but I have a lot of hobbies that I let become distractions in my life. Gaming, reading, films, TV, blogging, the internet in general. Which came first, the love for endless hours of gaming or the love for procrastinating?<br />
<br />
It's not like I get nothing done. If someone is counting on me, I give it my best effort to come through. But if it's something explicitly for myself? Meh... it can come later.<br />
<br />
This has left me with a messy apartment and errands that needed to be done yesterday.<br />
<br />
So I've decided to start getting my act together (as I always seem to say as it's a pretty prominent theme on this blog) and put together some tips to nip my lazy tendencies in the bud.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
-----</div>
<br />
<b>Kicking Laziness in the Butt</b><br />
<br />
- Make lists. Start with three things you need to accomplish that day. You will probably do more, but it gives you concrete, definable tasks to start with.<br />
<br />
- Subdivide tasks into managble ones. "Clean the apartment" is vague and daunting. Instead, break it up into small tasks like, "put laundry in hamper, clean dishes, vaccuum rugs"<br />
<br />
- Create your own reward system. Finish the laundry? Play Xbox for 30min. Sweep and mop the floor? Watch your favorite TV show.<br />
<br />
- Get a timer and don't do one thing for more than an hour, even if it's productive. You can browse pictures of cats online, but only for an hour, then it's on to something productive. This also helps so you don't burn out when actually getting things done<br />
<br />
- Look at your apartment and think of yourself as a stranger for a minute. What would you think if you walked into someone's apartment and it looked like yours did? Would you turn around and run out the door screaming? It can also help to imagine people you care about stopping by unannounced. What would they think?<br />
<br />
- Start doing things for "Future You". You might not want to do those dishes right now, but Future You would really appreciate it when she goes to make dinner later.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-----</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
What are some things that help you get stuff done? Do you write things down or have a favorite app on your phone for To Do lists?<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fish Tank is a 2009 British drama written and directed by Andrea Arnold. The film revolves around Mia, a 15 year old volatile teenager and aspiring dancer. When Mia's mother gets a new, attractive boyfriend, Mia's life changes forever. This film is definitely sad but I really enjoyed it. It's available on Netflix Instant. </div>

I don't take many vacations. In fact, it's been quite a few years since I've had one. So, I make do when I can. Last week I only had to work a few hours so I tried to take advantage and hung out with friends, visited the NYC Highline and Chelsea Market, a beir garten or two, and rearranged and organized my apartment. William even built me this awesome nail polish organizer that I completely love. It was a very good week but now it's back to the daily grind. Hope your week was just as awesome!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-1336310117829989642012-08-06T19:48:00.000-04:002012-08-06T19:48:14.722-04:00grown<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I remember it was a couple years ago and the season was changing from summer to fall and I noticed the leaves. Obviously leaves change colors, but I asked myself, "are they always this beautiful?" That year, I realized I just started noticing things more. Of course the leaves changing is always that beautiful, it was just that I never really fully appreciated them until then. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's funny when you can actually see the ways in which you change. From noticing things more, appreciating things more, to changing my styles and tastes and even how I act. Usually it's so gradual that it just sneaks up on you. Sometimes you will have little reminders of the past you, things you still have that you used to like. "Oh right, that used to be me."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Growing as a person is very important to me. Lately, I've grown tired of all the clutter around my tiny place and reminders of who I was is no longer who I am. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am ready to let go and move on. And while it's a bit bitter sweet, I'm actually excited about it. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This week, as I have a few extra hours off, I am going to be working on getting things gathered to sell at a garage sale, donate, and just plain toss in the trash. My goal is to keep things simple and fill my life only with things I love. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What are some ways you have realized you've changed? </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-26253087135097139242012-08-03T12:34:00.000-04:002012-08-03T12:34:12.911-04:00Gadgets & Gizmos // The Mohu TV Antenna<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/mohuantenna.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/mohuantenna.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm a big advocate of Netflix Instant and Hulu (even Hulu plus) but what's a girl to do when she wants to just watch the local news or catch up on the Olympic games? Instead of shelling out the big bucks for cable or having to watch on my computer, I bought this <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Paper-Thin-Leaf-Indoor-Antenna/dp/B004QK7HI8/">Mohu TV Antenna</a>. It's made for HDTVs and all you have to do it plug it in, hang it up, and scan for channels. It hangs up with sticky velcro pieces and you can put it on your wall and even behind your TV. For some reason I have to put mine on the window because my reception isn't that great but most reviewers didn't have to do this. I now get 30+ channels with just a one time cost and that makes me a happy, TV watching girl. </div>

saw the Dark Knight Rises for the second time, spent time in the pool and the sun, played Call of Duty, cheered for the USA in the Olympics, and drank a bit too many Modelos. I also shared a surprisingly tasty bag of M&M's which made me wonder if it was because they were "fresh" or just kept at a consistent temperature. Sometimes I think too much about silly things... I hope your weekend was just as fun.</div>

<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Truth be told, I've always been a little jealous at the selection of cases iPhones have. That's pretty much the only reason I considered getting one for my new phone. (It was just for a split second, I swear!) After browsing the internet for some options for my new Galaxy S3, I just wasn't happy, so I decided to decorate my own. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I picked up <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089F49P0/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01">this case</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089M2OLO/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01">these studs</a> from Amazon. Again, to tell the truth, I originally tried using the glue on the back of the studs but the glue just wasn't strong enough so I pulled them off and decided to start over. I picked a translucent white case because I thought it would hide any messy dried glue and it really did. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the pencil and a straight edge, I marked the case to give me some guidelines and I started from the bottom up, row by row. I was kind of frustrated that my original plan didn't work and going pretty fast so my studs are a bit crooked, as you can see. They aren't so crooked they will bother me though and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="383" src="http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab18/thesetlist/studdedcellphonecasediy4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The studs are really on there, I doubt any will fall off but I will keep a couple around just in case. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Are you going to try this? And if so, will you rub it in my face that your studs are straighter than mine? ;)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm off to go find something else to put studs on...</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8456756200894883892.post-25276623205813277182012-07-17T14:35:00.000-04:002012-07-17T14:35:15.586-04:00outfitting // bare<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I always used to be scared to show my arms. They are just one of the many things I have always been self conscious about. Because of this I have collected more than 20 cardigans. However, with age has come acceptance and I have finally started coming around to liking my body. I'm not there 100% and I'm still trying to lose weight to become healthier, but there is just no point in feeling ashamed of myself. This is me and I'm not going to feel bad about it. Plus, these heat waves we have been experiencing here in Jersey have me looking to put on light cotton clothing to be as comfortable as possible. That, or just putting on my bathing suit and jumping in the pool. Is there any better way to cool off?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03493069027290560025noreply@blogger.com0
