taking a cue // Mia in Fish Tank

Fish Tank is a 2009 British drama written and directed by Andrea Arnold. The film revolves around Mia, a 15 year old volatile teenager and aspiring dancer. When Mia's mother gets a new, attractive boyfriend, Mia's life changes forever. This film is definitely sad but I really enjoyed it. It's available on Netflix Instant.

taking a cue // lost in translation

Lost in Translation is one of my favorite movies. The film, directed by Sophia Coppola, is about a lost and neglected wife who meets a Hollywood actor well past his prime. The two hit it off in Tokyo, learning more about themselves through their relationship. I've always felt a connection with this film because like Charlotte, I have constantly struggled with figuring out who I want to be. The backdrop of Tokyo reflects both the bustling world Charlotte yearns to be a part of yet how completely removed she is from it as she stares out through her hotel window into the city below.

Taking a Cue III: Black Swan

While most females know the gorgeous ballet outfits in the Black Swan were designed by Rodarte, I was more drawn to the flowy, light colored ballet outfits Natalie Portman wore. They perfectly represented her character, at that point, as innocent and feminine.

I created a look based on these light, airy outfits. Besides, I don't know who would be able to pull off that heavy and dark eye shadowed look that Natalie has in the Black Swan at their day job. But this, this I think you can manage.
